Historic Howell Theater Engagement Photos in Howell, Michigan
There are literally so many beautiful places for engagement photos in Michigan, but every once in a while, a couple comes up with an idea that's completely their own. My friend Landon got engaged and asked me to take photos of him and his fiancée, Megan. He mentioned that he planned to rent out the Historic Howell Theater, and I was GEEEEEEKED.
For Landon and Megan, there was never really another option. They absolutely love movies, so renting out the Historic Howell Theater in downtown Howell, Michigan, felt like the perfect way to celebrate this season of their lives together. With their names shining across the theater's marquee and an empty auditorium all to themselves, their engagement session felt like a private movie starring the two of them.
As a Michigan engagement photographer, I love it when couples choose a location that's meaningful to their relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I freakin’ love planning locations and finding spots for my clients, but there’s just something special about a couple having specific things in mind for their engagement photos.
Why the Historic Howell Theater is Perfect for Engagement Photos
This was my first time taking photos here. One of my favorite parts of photographing at the Historic Howell Theater is how much variety you get without ever leaving the building.
If you're searching for a spot for your engagement photos and you want something unique, this place deserves a spot on your list. It feels completely different from a typical park or nature preserve and packs so much character into one location.
For a couple like Landon and Megan, whose love for movies is such a big part of their relationship, it couldn't have been a more fitting backdrop.
More Than Just a Movie Theater
One of the coolest parts? You can actually rent the Historic Howell Theater for private events. I mentioned that Landon rented part of it for their shoot. So yes, this is a thing.
Whether you're planning an engagement session, a surprise proposal, anniversary photos, a private movie night, Birthday celebrations, date night, or a small gathering, they’ve got you covered. Shoot, there was a graduation party happening in the other half of the theater when we were there.
You can even reserve a custom marquee message with your names or a special announcement on it at The Historic Howell Theater. It adds a fun, personal touch and instantly makes your photos feel truly one-of-a-kind.
If you're interested in creating your own movie-worthy moment, be sure to check out the Historic Howell Theater's Private Events page for rental information.
Engagement Photos That Feel Like You
The best engagement sessions aren't about following trends. They're about choosing a place that tells your story.
For Landon and Megan, part one of that story included the Historic Howell Theater.
